Just a tease. But oh man what tease it is!
Marvel Studios and Guardians of the Galaxy (vol. 2) director, James Gunn, made a few power moves on social media yesterday. It started with Gunn leaking the new GGv2 movie poster and tagline. To say the VERY least, this poster is COOL. Cooler than a chain wallet in the 90s. Check out the black and white, rock and roll poster below.
Then the international teaser was leaked in Russian so Marvel Studios and James Gunn gave all the American version. The teaser does a tremendous job of showing action, captivating imagery, and reminding fans of fun characters from the original. The art in this teaser, is that it shows us these things without giving away any of the storyline for the sequel to Marvel's surprise hit. The IMDB description doesn't' help much either. "Set to the backdrop of Awesome Mixtape #2, 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' continues the team's adventures as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill's true parentage." (Spoiler Alert: He's only half human) So, with the deliberate mystery of the plot still intact, there are a few things we can unravel from the teaser.
Marvel is trying to capitalize on their previous success using familiar catchy music in their promotional material and the movie it's self. Obviously, they used the same Blue Suede song from 1973 in the in the original GG movie and the full trailer.
Chris Pratt is still super likable, even in a short teaser.
Star Lord (Chris Pratt) still has a little thing for Gamora, played by Zoe Saladana. At this point, I'm convinced Saldana loves playing people or (colorful) aliens in space. I'm not kidding, go look at her IMDB. Go ahead........Told you. As far as Gamora's love life goes, it could get interesting once the Avengers and Tony Stark join the Guardians down the road. That is, if the movies resemble anything that happens in the comics.
Star Lord might be the leader of the crew responsible for saving the Galaxy, but he's still super zany!
- We get a quick flash of Nebula being captured(?). She didn't have a huge role in the first GG, but Gunn promises she'll be much more involved in the sequel and even shows promise to be one the film's stars. I, for one, am all for more Nebulla. She was one of the most interesting characters in the first GG, playing the brain washed and deadly daughter of the Mad Titan Thanos. Nebula is played by former Doctor Who companion, Karen Gillan. Most American fans aren't familiar with her work or even what she really looks like without all the incredible cosmetics. She's fantastic.
- The sequel is going to include more action from Yondu, played by Michael Rooker, and I love both. Rooker is an absolute savage at every promotional event and interview I have ever seen. Yondu has one of the most interesting and diabolical weapons in the galaxy. Check out this shot from the trailer of Rocket (Bradley Cooper) and Yondu with flying bodies all around.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe gives us plenty to look forward to. The Guardians of The Galaxy were a surprise hit for them and the sequel looks to add more of what we all loved before. All I know is....if it has Chris Pratt, you can guarantee people will love it.
